This car was built up specifically for this one-off rally, and Röhrl nearly brought home the victory after a monster drive against the factory Quattros. Only a driveshaft failure in the final stages robbed him of the win, which went to Mouton.
Dubbed the "San Demo" car, it was subsequently resurrected for Targa Tasmania in 2011, where after another stunning drive by Röhrl/Geistdorfer one of the driveshafts again failed.
It now lives in the Porsche museum, wearing a less-than-perfect replica of the Sanremo livery.
